Incorrect Copyright Claim on YouTube

# When Your Own Work Gets Copyright Claimed: A Decade-Long Journey

Creating original music and sharing it online should be straightforward, right? Well, my experience tells a different story—one that spans over a decade and involves multiple copyright claims on my own original compositions.

## The First Encounter (December 2012)

Back in December 2012, I was working on an original composition. Like many musicians, I'd upload different versions privately as "work in progress" files to keep track of my progress. I had about 5-6 versions uploaded privately when something unexpected happened—my own original work got flagged with a copyright claim.

YouTube's system had somehow marked my private uploads with copyright notice. The platform offered a dispute option, but it came with a stern warning: file too many incorrect disputes and risk having your channel suspended entirely.

Faced with this dilemma, I took a cautious approach. I filed a dispute for one track and deleted the rest. The claimant eventually retracted their claim, and I felt relieved enough to upload a few more versions of my work.

## Round Two (2022)

Fast forward to 2022. I wanted to share my song with likes of Sonu Nigam and Shaan , so I uploaded it as an unlisted video. To my surprise, once again, the copyright claim appeared on my own original composition.

This time, I reached out to YouTube also directly through Twitter, explaining the situation. I filed another dispute, and again, the claim was removed. In my communication with YouTube, I emphasized that this was becoming a pattern of incorrect claims against my original work.

## The Current Situation

It seems YouTube may have removed the problematic content from their Content ID system,  because it was also  highlighted that many artists have made videos about them,  as the option to file dispute itself on older claims,  has disappeared entirely; as well as there are no copyright claims on later uploads.

Currently, i am in the discussion to ensure that the problem doesn't resurface after final release.๐Ÿ˜Š
